B.S.E.E., The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa (May 1987). Honors: Phi Eta Sigma / Alpha Lambda Delta. Accomplishments: Designed a computer and operating system using an Intel microcontroller. Constructed / debugged hardware and software. Enjoyed helping other classmates throughout the project. Completed Auburn University College of Engineering Fundamentals of Industrial Instrumentation and Control Short Course in May 1988.


Experience

Reef Keepers, LLC - Huntsville, Alabama (2000 – 2001)

Part owner. Business provides advanced reef aquarium systems for commercial and residential clients. Duties include: system design, installation, upgrade, and maintenance. Designed company web page using Microsoft FrontPage. Installed Ethernet LAN to meet expanding business needs. Presently developing Microsoft Access database to schedule maintenance activities and automate billing, accounting, and ordering. 


CompuRad Technologies, Inc. - Huntsville, Alabama (1999)

Developed equipment acceptance tests for the Temelin Nuclear Power Plant in the Czech Republic. Items covered include the radiation monitoring system host computers, plant perimeter radiation monitoring system, and hermetic zone post accident monitors. 


General Electric Power Systems / TAD Energy Services, Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant - Decatur, Alabama (1998)

Identified plant process computer changes required to support 5% increased power operation of Units 2 and 3. Revised program calculations used to display real-time plant data and analyze plant efficiency. Reviewed 10,000 computer-monitored variables and identified new alarm bands for those affected. 

  
Midpoint International, Sequoyah Nuclear Plant - Soddy Daisy, Tennessee (1997)

Developed procurement specification and design change package to replace analog instrumentation with digital equipment valued at $1.5 million. Prepared other design changes and provided engineering support for designs in progress. 
  

Sorrento Electronics / Midpoint International, Watts Bar Nuclear Plant - Spring City, Tennessee (1994 – 1995)

Provided field-engineering support for analog and digital radiation monitoring system instrumentation at plant startup. Identified and corrected system design deficiencies. Provided guidance for technicians in the diagnosis and repair of defective equipment. Modified system test and operation procedures to demonstrate and provide functionality. 
  

B&W Nuclear Technologies, Bellefonte Nuclear Plant - Hollywood, Alabama (1991 – 1994)

Project/System Engineer for the plant’s digital radiation monitoring system. Significantly redesigned the system to reduce operating costs and comply with regulatory requirements. The plant board approved these changes by allocating $4 million for new equipment. The Electric Power Research Institute reported on this effort in EPRI document TR-104081, Utility Experience With Major Radiation Monitoring System Upgrades.

 

Tennessee Valley Authority, Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant - Decatur, Alabama (1988 – 1991)

Reviewed electrical design changes. Wrote plant modification instructions and worked closely with craft workers to assure proper completion of these activities. Performed research to ensure the qualification of questionable plant components.

    

Tennessee Valley Authority, Bellefonte Nuclear Plant - Hollywood, Alabama (1987 – 1988)

Assisted with the design, installation, and calibration of critical HVAC instrumentation. Completion of this work allowed the removal of several temporary cooling units.
